ExOfficio Men’s BugsAway Chas’r Short-Sleeve TeeIf you have been here before, you know we are huge fans of ExOfficio and their innovative products.  Now if you are looking at the picture and take it at face value then it looks like your standard T-shirt.  That couldn’t be further from the truth.  This shirt has been treated with an insect shield technology which makes hiking through remote areas a pleasure.  Now if you are on the go or traveling constantly, we recommend a shaver that you can pack along like the Panasonic Arc 4.  Net’s see why it is so important to pack a couple of these shirts.

Now even though this shirt has Insect Shield® technology the shirt is odorless and the insect protection is invisible.  While you are traveling across the globe, who wants to remember the bug spray?  The best part is, this shirt protects you from mosquitoes that are caring disease, biting pests like ticks and ants, annoying flies, and chiggers and midges.  Who wants to deal with West Nile virus, Yellow Fever, Dengue, Filariasis, and others?  Now, of course, there are some drawbacks with the BugsAway clothing but for protection while you are out in the wilderness is priceless.

Features of the BugsAway Chas’r Tee

ExOfficio Men’s BugsAway Chas’r Short-Sleeve TeeThe Chas’r Tee is comfortable to wear made of 70% cotton and 30% Polyester so you get a shirt that is still breathable and very quick drying.  While I was wearing this shirt through our week trek I didn’t smell at all any only packed two of the ExOfficio Chas’r Tee’s.  You can tell that the shirt was well designed coming with a ribbed collar and cuff.  The shirt is tagless which is one less annoyance while you are enjoying your hike through the wilderness.

Another feature that comes with the shirt is UV block.  Now you might be scratching your head wondering how they could add UV block and I was wondering the same thing myself.  They treat the fabric with UPF Sun Guard 30+ and the Insect Shield and once applied it is so tightly bound to the fibers, it takes over 30 washings for the UV block to start wearing off and 70 washes for the Insect Shield to start losing its potency.  We have included a durability chart below so you can get a good idea of what to expect.

Durablility for ExOfficio-BugsAway

We understand the lifespan of the Insect Shield doesn’t last forever but at the same time how much is it worth protecting yourself against serious disease?  We are hug fans of the insect shield and have put it to the test.  I didn’t receive a single bite from the mosquitoes while my travel buddies got eaten alive.  They are now also wearing the BugsAway line from ExOfficio.  Here are some additional features:

  • 70% Cotton / 30% Polyester
  • Ribbed collar and cuff
  • Tagless label for added comfort (Heat Transfer)
  • Insect Shield repels many varieties of insect: Lasts 70 washings
  • Odor resistant and wrinkle resistant
  • UPF Sun Guard 30+
  • Moisture wicking and fast drying
  • Never dry clean

The only thing that I noticed was that these shirts do run a little small so I ended up ordering one size bigger.  Other than that one drawback I am a firm believer in this product line.
